City of Las Vegas Nevada
and its surrounding areas
Your guide to getting around Las Vegas
section by section
The City of Las Vegas Nevada became so in 1905. It’s a heavily populated city, which had an estimated population of just under 600,000 in 2010. And it’s known to you and I as the Entertainment Capital of the World!
But did you know that the region we all tend to refer to as Las Vegas actually encompasses a much larger area covering the City, the Las Vegas Valley and the Strip? And much of the Las Vegas Strip is actually in Paradise, Winchester and Enterprise. The population estimate for this wider Las Vegas metropolitan area was a little under two million in 2010!
Although these are interesting facts the main thing you need to know about the City of Las Vegas Nevada for your trip is where to find what! For example if you choose to stay at Caesars Palace what shops, attractions and other hotels are nearby?

The great thing about this city is that it’s jam-packed with magnificent hotels offering first class dining experiences, shopping malls that will take your breath away as well as your money, Nevada attractions of both the free and paid for variety, sport, and fabulous star-studded shows. There’s something for everyone in Sin City from kids to adults. But what’s where?
When you’ve booked your hotel, or even before, have a look at our map of Las Vegas hotels and guides, below, to the various sections of the Strip in the City of Las Vegas Nevada and start putting together an itinerary for getting around Las Vegas.
Southern Strip
Section 1. Mandalay Bay to the Tropicana
We stayed in the Southern Strip on our first trip to Las Vegas. The
first section of the Southern part of the Strip
is the area stretching from the Mandalay Bay to the Tropicana, closest to the airport. From our room at the Luxor we could see the aeroplanes taking off and landing at McCarran.
Section 2. New York New York to City Center
We’ve spent a lot of time in
this section of the Strip
enjoying the attractions from the Lion Habitat to Gamesworks along with hours of window shopping in the upscale shopping mall, Crystals at City Center.
Section 3. Planet Hollywood to the Bellagio
The Miracle Mile Shops are one of our favourite of the Las Vegas shopping malls. If you’re staying at the Planet Hollywood resort you’ll find it right on your doorstep. This section is also home to the iconic Bellagio hotel. Make sure you catch one of the Fountains of Bellagio shows. A great place to view them is from the Mon Ami Gabi restaurant at the Paris hotel, opposite.
Section 4. Caesars Palace to Casino Royale
There’s so much to do in the Caesars Palace resort let alone the rest of this section which stretches down to Casino Royale. We love to stay in this part of the Strip and be just a stone’s throw from the fabulous Forum shops, the star-studded Colosseum, Margaritaville and the peaceful Flamingo Habitat.
Northern Strip
Section 5. Mirage to Fashion Show Mall
This is a fabulous section of the Strip packed with elegant hotels such as the Mirage and the Venetian, the excellent Fashion Show Mall and must-see attractions from the Gondola ride to Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat.
Section 6. Wynn to the Stratosphere
There’s quite an eclectic mix of hotels in this area from the luxurious Wynn and Encore to the fun packed Stratosphere where if you choose you can take a heart-pounding ride at the very top of the tower overlooking Las Vegas.
