Getting around Las Vegas
Southern Strip Area

Everything you need to know about Section 1
Mandalay Bay to the Tropicana

We’re pretty familiar with getting around Las Vegas' Southern Strip as we first stayed here in 2003 on our first trip to Las Vegas. If the temperatures are crazy or you’re only in town for a couple of days and don’t plan on venturing far it helps to know what’s nearby.

Section one of the Southern Strip is the area stretching from the Mandalay Bay to the Tropicana, and is closest to the airport. See Las Vegas Strip hotel map and the map below.

If you choose to stay in this area of Las Vegas you’ll have a great selection of hotels to choose from, no matter the size of your budget, together boasting numerous shows, attractions and shopping malls.

My parent’s first visited Sin City for a few days in the height of summer and stayed in the Southern Strip. They couldn’t face getting around Las Vegas so stayed in their hotel and the neighbouring establishments and still found they had plenty to see and do.

Luxor Hotel

Luxor Hotel in Vegas

On our first trip to sin city we stayed at the Luxor Hotel in Vegas, named after the city in Egypt. It’s one of the most distinctive of all the Las Vegas Nevada Hotels on the Strip; shaped like a pyramid, with a sky beam you can see from your airplane, and is guarded by a massive sphinx. It's perfect if you're looking for somewhere a bit different to stay.

The Tropicana is practically part of the desert city's landscape. You probably know it from films such as Viva Las Vegas. However the resort's recently commenced a huge refurbishment programme to bring it bang up to date with a South Beach feel.
