Owing to the massive success of the History Channel’s Pawn Stars TV show the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop in Sin City is fast becoming one of the most popular tourist attractions in Las Vegas.

About the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop

If you haven’t seen the show, it debuted on the History Channel in 2009.

The reality show centres on a family-run pawn shop namely featuring: Richard (the Old Man); his son, Rick Harrison; Rick’s son, Corey Harrison (Big Hoss); and Corey’s friend Austin Russell (Chumlee.)

When I first watched the show the only thing I could remotely compare it to was the Antiques Roadshow, a UK show, where experts value antiques and collectibles.

But the valuation part is really where the comparisons end. Partly what makes the show such a success is that viewers get to enjoy the dynamics of the relationships between Richard, Rick, Corey and Chumlee, who’s often the butt of the jokes, as well as their interactions with the customers who bring in items to sell at the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop and the experts they call upon for assistance.

Las Vegas Power Pass attractions passThe cost of visiting all the great attractions Las Vegas has to offer can really add to the cost of your trip. To help keep costs down we usually get a Las Vegas Power Pass

With it you’ll have access to over 20 attractions, tours, rides etc. The Power Pass is worth more than $500 in admissions and discounts.

About the Main Stars

Richard Harrison, who served in the Navy, opened the Pawn Shop in 1988 after losing a lot of money in real estate. It was a steep learning curve to start with but Richard has turned the shop in to a multi-million dollar business.

Richard trained his son, Rick, in the family business from when he was 13 years old. He’s now been working there for 28 years and is renowned for spotting fake items.

Although fairly young, Corey, Rick’s son, has a lot of experience in examining and valuing items having worked in the Pawn shop since he was just 9 years old. His dad works him pretty hard feeling he should earn his keep.

Chumlee is a hugely popular character in the show. He’s Corey’s childhood friend and often the cast member who’s not taken particularly seriously because he doesn’t have the best business brain often wanting to buy items because he likes them, such as video games.

Visit the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop

The Gold and Silver Pawn shop attracts upwards of 5,000 visitors a day so you can expect to queue for a while to get in as the shop’s fairly small. If you go towards the end of the day you’ve more chance of walking straight in.

What can I buy?

They have both low and high end items for sale at the shop some of which you’ll have seen on the show. There’s also a range of Pawn Stars items you can buy which range from mouse mats to bobble heads of the characters.

Get directions to the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop

If you get the Deuce bus to the Stratosphere hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada then the shop’s just a short walk from there.
