Q. Which hotel is better to stay at the Luxor, the Excalibur or TI?
I’m going to Las Vegas in May with my boyfriend and have been looking at the Luxor, TI and the Excalibur. Can you tell me which one would be best to stay at?
A. This question comes up a lot which is why we've included it in the Las Vegas FAQ about Hotels. We have a soft spot for the Luxor hotel in Vegas as that’s where we stayed for our honeymoon. We had a room in one of the towers but if you want a different experience from your hotel room get a pyramid room. The hotel is so distinct and pretty modern having been renovated not all that long ago.
The Luxor’s not in the most central location on the Strip but you can easily reach the Mandalay Bay, Excalibur.
More information about the Luxor.
The Excalibur in Vegas is next to the Luxor and is well-suited for families. You can get some pretty good deals on rooms here. Of the three you’re looking at it’s probably the most dated.
More information about the Excalibur.
We’ve always had a great time when we’ve stayed at TI Las Vegas. It’s in a central location on the Strip near to the Wynn and the Encore, the Venetian and the Palazzo, and right next door to the Fashion Show Mall.
TI was renovated in 2003 and there’s a youngish vibe here which would probably suit you. We found it really good value for money.
More information about TI.
So on balance we’d probably say in this order of preference: TI, Luxor, then the Excalibur.
Q. What’s the best hotel in Las Vegas?
I’m taking my husband to Vegas next month to celebrate his fortieth birthday and I want it to be really special. Which hotel would be the best to stay at?
A. None of what we call the best hotels in Las Vegas would disappoint. You couldn’t go wrong by staying at the Wynn or the Encore which have top quality rooms, shops and restaurants.
More information about the Wynn
and the
Encore.
The Bellagio is one of the most iconic hotels on the Strip noted for its romantic ambiance and beautiful fountains.
More information about the Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas.
We’re also particularly fond of the Venetian and Palazzo where you can take a relaxing Gondola Ride and make believe you’re in Europe.

Casino in Las Vegas and the
Palazzo
Las Vegas.
And of course you’ll find some of the other finest hotels in Vegas at City Center. Stay at Aria or Vdara Las Vegas if you want to stay in an ultra modern establishment. More information about
Aria
and
Vdara.
As it’s such a special occasion our preference in this case would be the Wynn.
Q. Can I check in to a hotel room on the Strip by myself if I'm under 21?
A. The majority of hotels don't but the age limit should be listed on individul hotel websites. You can check in to the Hilton Las Vegas if you're over 18 which is just off the Strip. To book a room at the Hilton call 800-732-7117
Q. Are there any Las Vegas Pet Friendly Hotels? I really want to take my dog with me on my next trip.
A. Yes, there are hotels where you can take your dog in Las Vegas. Harrah's has recently launched its PetStay programme so you now have even more choice of where to stay with your pet and don't have to compromise on hotel.
Q. My boyfriend and I are going to Las Vegas to celebrate our anniversary. Which hotels are the most romantic?
A. For a romantic break stay at the
Paris
hotel, the
Bellagio
or the
Venetian.
Q. What time can I check in and check out of my hotel room?
A. The normal time for check in is from 3pm and check out is usually 11am. If you arrive at the hotel before 3pm it's worth checking to see if a room's available.
If it's not you can usually leave your baggage at the hotel. The same goes for check out. Our flights home are often much later in the day so on the day of check out we leave our baggage at the hotel and pick it up before heading off to the airport. We haven't ever had to pay extra to do this.
To find out if it's possible to arrange an early check in or late out speak to the hotel directly.
A. Certainly the Palms and the
Bellagio
do but it'll cost you!
Q. Do hotels let non-guests use their pools?
A. Most pools require a room-key to access the pool area however there are some that are open to the public. Over 21s can visit Bare at the
Mirage
for a daily fee; non-guests can use the pool at the
Rio
for a fee; the Golden Nugget in the
downtown area
lets non-guests in for a fee. (Fees are $10 upwards a day.)
